Diplo Blasts Zedd And Selena Gomez’s ‘Fake Relationship’

Dip attempted to clarify his beef with Zedd... but he kind of only made it worse.

Diplo is no stranger to “bad blood.” The Major Lazer leader made headlines last fall with his very public (and very childish) beef with Taylor Swift, igniting the hatred of Swifties everywhere.

Now, Dip has fired shots at another unsuspecting victim: fellow EDM star Zedd. It all started last week when Diplo tweeted (and later deleted) his thoughts on Zedd’s new True Colors album, comparing it to poop. Or, more accurately, the poop emoji. But you get the gist.

In a new interview with radio.com, the producer attempted to clarify his beef with Zedd — but ended up kinda dissing him even more. After insisting they’re cool with each other, Dip went on to slam what he says was a manufactured relationship between Zedd and his “I Want You to Know” collaborator, Selena Gomez.

“I’m actually not enemies with Zedd by any means,” he said. “I just think that he came from such a cool place, and now he’s been pegged as a money-maker for a major label to do EDM, which to me isn’t even a genre. But they’ve pegged him for that, they’ve marketed him, even the fake relationship with Selena Gomez, all the things to sell records took away from the music.”

If Zedd and Sel’s cute coupledom really was just a ruse — which seems pretty unlikely, considering how effin’ adorable they were — Dip definitely had no problem playing along. Back in February, he tweeted a pic of him and Zedd with the playful caption, “@selenagomez watch out.”

Anyway, Diplo continued his attempt at damage control by saying he felt disappointed that Zedd didn’t come out with “the weirdest s--t” like he says he and his Jack U partner Skrillex did.

“He’s an amazing producer and good songwriter,” Dip said. “He’s got a really loud space right now in this culture, there are a lot of people paying attention to him, he can do this awesome music, and to just come out with something so flat and expected and easy for people… You only live once, you know what I’m saying?”

We’re not quite sure how Zedd is going to feel about these seemingly backhanded compliments, but one thing’s for sure: Zeddlena shippers are already up in arms about Diplo’s claim that the relationship was fake. On Twitter, Dip added fuel to the fire by cheekily suggesting he’s actually the one who belongs with Sel.

Yes, Diplo definitely seems to love riling people up and basking in the beef. But this story may just have a happy ending after all — he took to Twitter on Friday (June 5) to proclaim Zedd is “dope af” and suggest everyone go have fun (and eat pizza).
