Is Soundset The Best Hip-Hop Festival Around? Yes And Here’s Why
SHAKOPEE, Minnesota -- We love music festivals.
Coachella, Hangout, Lollapalooza and the like? They're all awesome. But which one is the most hip-hop? Well, as we found out in Shakopee, Minnesota this weekend, the rap festival crown belongs to Soundset.
And we're not the only ones who think so.
"This is the last hip-hop festival," Logic told MTV News on Sunday (May 24). "This is it. To be a part of this, it's really amazing."
We went to Minnesota's Canterbury Park for the eighth annual event Sunday to see just how Soundset's keeping hip-hop's elements - breakdancing, graffiti writing, rapping and DJing - alive. Here's a look at what we found.
You Can Find Major Label MCs Like Big Sean There
As Well As Independent MCs Like Evidence
You Can Go From Yelawolf
To Ludacris
To Atmosphere
You Can See B-Boys And B-Girls Prove Break Dancing Is Still Alive
And Graffiti Writers Get Their Shine Too
DJs Like Babu Get Love
You Can Find MCs Freestyling On Or Off-Stage
You Can Rap Along With Your Favorite MCs
Or Dance Along To Your Favorite Tracks
Or Just Crowd Surf To 'Em
You'll See The Illest Hip-Hop Gear
And You Might Even Meet Your Favorite Rapper Vic Mensa There
It looks like next year will be even bigger for Soundset. The festival announced Sunday that it'll be held at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds May 29. You've got a year to prep for the most hip-hop festival around.
So, bring your rhymes, you breaking moves, your DJ skills or just be ready to have some fun. If this year was any indication, you're in for a hip-hop lover's dream.
