The Most Popular Baby Names This Year Are Also From Your Favorite Movies
In case you needed any further proof that movies and television shows shape the rest of our lives, the UK site babycentre released its annual list of the most popular names across the pond on Monday. Somewhat unsurprisingly, names from "Game of Thrones" and "Frozen" topped its list of pop culture-inspired monikers, but less likely candidates like "Breaking Bad" and "Orange is the New Black" also popped.
Here are the movie and TV characters that will be coming to a playground near you (if you live in England) over the next few years:
Elsa from "Frozen"
Was there any doubt that the character topping every kid's wish list this year would inspire a slew of actual babies? Elsa was the 75th most popular female name of 2014.
Olaf and Kristoff from "Frozen"
Elsa wasn't the only "Frozen" character to have a big year. Olaf and Kristoff were registered names with BabyCentre for the first time ever in 2014.
Daenerys from "Game of Thrones"
Daenerys was registered a few times in 2014, but even more folks chose to name their daughters after the actress who plays the Khaleesi on "Game of Thrones": Emilia came in at number 53.
Tyrion from "Game of Thrones"
Tyrion was also registered a few times last year, so get ready to meet some kids who always pay their debts.
Primrose and Effie from "The Hunger Games"
It's nice to see the Districts and the Capitol coming out even for once -- Primrose and Effie were both on the rise in 2014.
Gale from "The Hunger Games"
Interestingly enough, Gale was on the rise this year... but for females. (Hey, it's more than we can say for Peeta.)
Walter, Skyler and Jesse from "Breaking Bad"
Be sure to remember this name -- "Breaking Bad" reportedly led to a huge increase in baby Walters, while Jesses and Skylers also surged in popularity.
Piper from "Orange is the New Black"
The name "Piper" almost tripled in popularity in 2014, largely due to the influence of "Orange is the New Black" baddie Piper Chapman.
