Miley Calls Britney Spears The 'One Person In My Life Who Gets It'

'We Can't Stop' singer explains why she relates to Spears, says her critics have forgotten what it's like to be 20 years old.

These days, when Miley Cyrus needs some advice about life in the spotlight, she knows where to turn. In a new interview, the former Disney princess revealed that she looks to none other than fellow Mouse House alum Britney Spears.

"Everyone goes through a time in their life where they don't want their picture taken every day. [Britney] just never had that time where she could say, 'I'm going through something right now and need to shut down,' " she told Huffington Post U.K. "I also don't have that, so it's good to have that one person in my life who gets it."

Cyrus rose to fame on Disney's "Hannah Montana," nearly 15 years after Spears made her TV debut on the '90s reboot of "The Mickey Mouse Club" on the same cable network. So it's not too surprising that she feels a kinship with the 31-year-old pop star. Spears has publicly weathered her fair share of ups and downs, and Miley has been under the microscope lately for everything from her fashion choices to her partying.

"I just think it's never blaming you or making you feel like, 'You've got all this going for you,' " Miley explained of why Spears is such a good pal. "It's like, she knows. Sometimes life just steps in the middle of your career the way life always does for anyone -- it's just ours is a little more 24/7."

The VMA-nominated Miley is currently making the rounds promoting her hit single [article id="1708342"]"We Can't Stop."[/article] And in another interview with the Associated Press, she opened up about what she thinks of the perception that she's a party girl.

"I think people forget what it feels like to be 20," she said. "People just evolve and that's all that's happened to me. But people think a mad scientist somehow cooked up this potion and turned me into a different human, which it wasn't. All I did was get a haircut and buy some clothes and everyone thinks that I am made into a robot that changes with what's popular every 10 years."

She then shared her perspective on what happens to some celebrities who don't get a chance to just live and make mistakes in their teens and 20s. "That's why I think some people kind of fall off and they end up going crazy because you don't give yourself time to go crazy," she continued. "That's what you're supposed to do; you are 20, you are supposed to be a mess because you haven't figured it out yet, and 10 years from now I am supposed to have it all together."

Cyrus is nominated for three Moonmen at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards for her house party-themed [article id="1709643"]video for "We Can't Stop."[/article] The VMAs will go live on August 25 from Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
