Official Princess Diana Tribute Track Listing Announced
October 28 [Updated 15:00 EDT] -- The world's top artists have united to pay tribute to the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and the results will likely bring tears to the eyes of even the most stalwart of listeners and millions of dollars to the memorial fund.
The official commemorative double CD, called "Diana, Princess of Wales -- Tribute," and due out December 1, will feature 36 tracks, including 13 compositions written exclusively for the record. The rest are existing songs donated to the project and include such major hits as recent singles from the Spice Girls, and Puff Daddy and past chart toppers like Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven," Mariah Carey's "Hero," and Toni Braxton's "Angel.
Indeed, the majority of the songs, appropriately enough, are touching ballads. Other titles included "Everybody Hurts," "Hymn to Her", "Gone Too Soon" and "Prayer for the Dying." Not included on the CD set is Elton John's remake of "Candle in The Wind," performed at Diana's funeral.
Alongside the celebrity tracks is the song, "I'm In Love With The World," by the little known Chicken Shed Theatre Company. The singer is Lissa Hermans, a 15-year old blind girl taken under the wing of Princess Diana. The Princess had heard the girl sing the song in 1990 with the theatre company, a project dedicated to helping special needs children through artistic development. Diana was impressed enough to return to the theatre with her sons in tow to hear the song again, plus she asked for and received a tape, which she played often in her car. She eventually became the company's patron and helped raise 6 million pounds for a permanent theatre.
Hermans recorded a special version of the song for the album earlier this month. The song will likely be released as a single.
