There is a gilded feel to [artist id="2128037"]OneRepublic[/artist]'s "All the Right Moves" video, and it makes sense the band would go that way.

After all, the song could almost be described as electro-charged chamber music, with its pealing organ and trilling strings and Ryan Tedder's gold-leaf falsetto (so that explains the masked ballroom dancers). And there's no denying the fact that OneRepublic have entered the triumphant, downright baroque portion of their career: their upcoming Waking Up album (due November 17) follows the success of 2007's Dreaming Out Loud, which turned the band into pop royalty, so the trappings and formalities of the clip can be understood, too.

Still, what the video is actually most reminiscent of is one of [artist id="3174078"]Panic! at the Disco[/artist] videos -- with all its shimmery ephemera, it's like a mixture of "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" and "But It's Better If You Do" (although it looks like it cost a lot more to make).

But still, the gilded theme doesn't explain a few things that happen in the clip. What's the deal with the loveable street urchin who intros the band, then spends the remainder of the clip picking partygoers' pockets? Why is there an oddly Tom Cruise-ian thread running throughout (not just the title of the song -- which is the same as Cruise's 1983 football flick -- but the fact that so much of it is reminiscent of "Eyes Wide Shut")? And what kind of party is it, anyway?

But hey, those questions are secondary. Working with Wayne Isham (who's directed videos for everyone from Metallica to Britney Spears), they've created a refined, classy clip, one befitting their status as the new kings of mature pop, and one that has plenty to catch the eye.

After all, if it ain't baroque, don't fix it.
