Måneskin's Leather-Filled VMA Performance Featured A Cheeky Surprise

The Italian glam-rock band performed their glamorous single 'Supermodel'

To some degree, the 2022 VMAs broadcast has been all about butts, ranging from the ass-shaking giantess who loomed over J Balvin’s set to Anitta’s incomparably sexy twerking. And Måneskin also took the opportunity to bring some cheeks into their performance of their California-inspired hit “Supermodel,” their first at the show.

The Italian glam rock band began with a grungy intro from guitarist Thomas Raggi. Frontman Damiano David took the lead amid a dozen dancers, baring skin half-waist up with thigh-revealing black leather pants. As he turned around, the audience got a peachy surprise shake when he revealed a matching black thong.

“Alone at parties in a deadly silhouette,” David sings in the first verse. “She loves the cocaine, but cocaine don't love her back / When she's upset, she talks to Maury and takes deep breaths / She's a '90s supermodel, uh-uh-uh.”

The dancers and bassist Victoria De Angelis were similarly scantily-clad in black ensembles, some layered with jewels, fishnet stockings, tall heels, and metal chains. Måneskin even brought classic rock moves to the stage: Raggi struck cool guitar poses, kicking and lifting his leg up in the air as big synchronized shooting flames behind them.

“Supermodel” was inspired by the band’s stay in Los Angeles, creating a glamorous fictional character named "Supermodel" who loves to party. The song was released back in May and peaked at No. 13 on Billboard’s U.S. Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and within the top ten of five countries, charting at No. 11 in their home country of Italy. Måneskin band took home their first Moon Person award for Best Alternative during the night.

The 2022 VMAs aired live on MTV from Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Find the complete list of winners right here and keep up with all of the night's biggest VMA moments.
