Beyonce, Ruben Studdard To Appear In Luther Vandross Video

With R&B legend still hospitalized after suffering stroke, director Diane Martel gathered several of his friends to shoot 'Dance With My Father' clip.

Beyoncé, Monica and Ruben Studdard are among the singers who will appear in a star-studded video for Luther Vandross' "Dance With My Father."

With the R&B legend still hospitalized after suffering a stroke in April (see [article id="1472561"]"Luther Vandross Moved Out Of Intensive Care"[/article]), director Diane Martel (Christina Aguilera, Eve) gathered several of his friends and admirers last week to shoot a visual companion to the emotional single.

The video has the look and feel of a home movie, with celebrities paying tribute to both Vandross and their own dads and families, according to a J Records spokesperson.

Beyoncé, whose duet with Vandross, "The Closer I Get to You," is featured on his recently released album, Dance With My Father, appears in the video alongside her father and manager, Mathew Knowles.

Stevie Wonder, Johnny Gill and Nona Gaye, along with actors Holly Robinson Peete ("21 Jump Street"), Garcelle Beauvais ("NYPD Blue") and the Wayans brothers also shot scenes for the video, while Wyclef Jean, Whitney Houston, Babyface, Brian McKnight, Celine Dion, Patti LaBelle, Quincy Jones and basketball star Jason Kidd submitted pictures and home videos of their own.

"I'm a part of this project because I got the wonderful opportunity to work with Luther," Beyoncé said in a statement. "When I was in the studio with him, I fell in love. He is such a special person, I just wanted to be here for him. I've been praying for him and am so happy that he's doing well."

While Vandross has been recovering, Dance With My Father, which debuted at #1 when it was released on June 10 (see [article id="1472858"]"Luther Vandross Trumps Metallica, Radiohead On Albums Chart"[/article]), has become his fastest selling platinum album ever.

Before the incident, the 52-year-old singer explained the motivation for the song "Dance With My Father" to J Records. "Recording that song was very emotional for me and it is based on my own experience," he said. "It's my mother and my father dancing to some Baby Washington songs with me right there ... and the memory of that moment has hovered around me throughout my life ever since."
