Original Ending For 'Election' Discovered on VHS Tape at Yard Sale... WTF?!

Blu-rays and DVDs are often marketed with the promise of being able to watch deleted scenes, alternate endings and random tidbits that ended up on the cutting room floor, but here's a new one: the folks at Slash Film have just uncovered never-before-seen original ending of the cult classic comedy "Election."

Which they found on a VHS tape. At a yard sale.

Talk about your special editions!

Here's the dilly: "Election," which has been lauded as one of the best indie comedies of all time, came out in 1999 and launched Reese Witherspoon to stardom on the strength of her instantly classic performance as Tracy Flick, a scheming go-getter looking to become student body president at her high school. Matthew Broderick starred opposite her as a teacher who complicates everything by convincing another student to run against her.

The ending of the movie, which involves the two meeting years later in New York, has long been lauded by fans as being pitch perfect, which makes this original ending even more astounding. Not that it's entirely unexpected -- the sequence is taken directly from the film's source material, author Tom Perrotta's novel of the same name -- but seeing as how it changes the entire feel of the movie, it's still a shock.

Plus, you know, they found it at a yard sale.

Anyway, check it out and see for yourself. And keep an eye on those yard sales and flea markets. Because you really never know what you might find.
