Dame Dash Denies Jay Z Beef In Chapter 1 Of 'Culture Vultures': Listen

'What Jay wanted to become, he became,' Dash says in his new book.

Dame Dash has been asked about his perceived falling out with Jay Z many times, and in his Culture Vultures book, the co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records breaks down exactly what happened from his perspective.

“What we did was create a company together," Dame explained in the audiobook. "We sold it. He went corporate and I decided to stay independent. There was no beef. Pause.

"I don’t have anything but positive things to say," he added. "What Jay wanted to become, he became."

Dame has spoken about his perceived Jay Z feud several times. In 2013, he told MTV News that there was no problem with Jigga.

“If Jay wanna come through and do something," Dash said. "He could come holla at me. I don’t got no beef with Jay.”

That same year, he also explained why he didn't enjoy beef with anyone during another interview with MTV News.

"What’s the reason for beef?" he said at the time. "That’s stupid. People die. People don’t feel good. I want people to laugh."

But Culture Vultures is about more than just Dame's relationship with Jay. It's actually a look into Dash's business mind, which was rooted in his upbringing, as he explains. In fact, the book starts with a touching portrayal of Dame's childhood.

"When I was growing up, my only fear was losing my mother," he wrote. "So when she passed, I was devastated. But from that moment on, I went into a fearless zone.

"I became unafraid to live life to the fullest, especially because I didn’t have the security of my mother to fall back on if something went wrong," he continued. "If I didn’t have money, I always knew that my mother would take care of me. So, not having that crutch to lean on was when I became a pure cake-a-holic. It made me a savage."

Culture Vultures is titled after the mogul referring to several men, including former Def Jam executive Joie Manda, as "culture vultures."

It also comes after he and Kanye West recently made headlines by forming a partnership. Together, they confirmed that they would be releasing a film and purchasing Karmaloop.
