Channing Tatum Is Taking On A Completely New Role For His Next Movie

Sadly, it requires clothes.

The less clothing the better when it comes to Channing Tatum, but we're cool with him donning a new cap this once, because it's kind of a big deal: he's set to add "director" to his ever-growing list of credentials. Is there anything this guy can't do?

Tatum will co-direct and produce author Matthew Quick's YA novel "Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Quick is no stranger to having his work splashed across the big screen – he wrote the novel adapted into 2012's David O. Russell-directed "Silver Linings Playbook," which earned Jennifer Lawrence her first Oscar.

Tatum's dark turn in recent release "Foxcatcher" makes us think he may bring a bit of that intensity to the table for "Peacock" – the novel focuses on a boy who plots to kill his ex-friend and then himself after school on his 18th birthday. It's going to be a tricky tone to balance, but Tatum is also considering the role of Leonard's teacher who attempts to intervene – that may help bring a bit of levity into the heavy subject matter.

For now, Tatum and co-director Reid Carolin are in the beginning stages of "Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock" – they're looking for a writer to adapt the material. And if you're concerned about seeing less of Tatum's, ehem, behind from behind that camera, don't fret: "Magic Mike XXL" hits theaters next July.
