Bruno Mars Is Producing A Sitcom — And He's Got Some 'Empire'-Sized Help

Move over, Nicki Minaj — now Bruno's coming for the small screen.

Bruno Mars got an extra-special gift for his 30th birthday on Thursday (Oct. 8): his very own music-based family comedy.

The singer (and prolific songwriter) has inked a deal with NBC to produce a scripted, single-camera sitcom. Mars is teaming up with “Empire” executive producer Brian Grazer and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” writer Prentice Penny for the show, which won’t be entirely autobiographical, but WILL incorporate some elements from his life.

According to Deadline, the as-yet-untitled show centers around a “boisterous, and quarrelsome family from the Bronx” and the hilarity that ensues when they take in their “wide-eyed, hopelessly optimistic” young nephew.

Mars is just the latest star to a score a TV production deal. In September, ABC Family announced plans for a new sitcom produced by Nicki Minaj, and earlier this year, Snoop Dogg confirmed he’s developing a family drama for HBO.
