Fall Out Boy have already said they're not interested rehashing the past on their upcoming [article id="1701518"]Save Rock and Roll[/article] album ... and on Monday (March 18), they unveiled the artwork for the record, which makes that point abundantly clear.

The cover of Save Rock and Roll features a striking photo of two young boys -- one wearing traditional monk robes, the other in jeans and a T-shirt, smoking a cigarette -- taken by Roger Stonehouse in Burma; and the message is clear: this is an album that is definitely indebted to the past, but defiantly points towards the future.

"We came across the punk and monk image on the Internet and it really solidified what we were trying to get across on the record: The idea of old and new clashing. Tradition and change coming together," FOB wrote about the cover on their official site. "Obviously this is an image that means a lot to many people ... these kids represent the youth, change and irreverence that we hope our record is listen to with."

And to that point, the new album features cameos from the artists that span not only genres, but generations -- [article id="1701643"]2 Chainz[/article] appears in the video for first single "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light 'Em Up)," and the band recently logged time in the studio with none other than Elton John. Fall Out Boy have previously recorded with everyone from Jay-Z to Elvis Costello, but this time, it seems like they've made it their mission to push the envelope ... something they mentioned at the end of their recent post.

"We just want to take the rules and start all over with Save Rock and Roll," they wrote.

They're also changing the rules when it comes to album release dates: Save Rock and Roll was originally set to be released in May, but FOB recently announced that it will now hit stores on April 16 in the U.S.
