Sam Smith Is Basically 'Flying' After Vocal Cord Surgery: See The Hospital Selfies

Get well soon, Sam!

Sam Smith is flying high after his vocal cord surgery -- at least until the anesthesia wears off.

The singer posted a pic of himself with his nurse, presumably shortly after he underwent the surgery. In it, Smith rocks some shades while holding a cup with a straw and looking all sorts of out of it, which is probably why he captioned the photo "flying."

Earlier in the day (May 14), the "really nervous" singer took a "hospital selfie" as he geared up for the surgery, which will have him sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Late last month, Sam discovered a “small hemorrhage” on his vocal cords, but it developed into something much more serious. But he promises he's going to "be able to sing like never before so it’s worth it."

Don't expect him to be talking about his surgery anytime soon though, since he can't speak for three weeks following the operation.

This unexpected hiccup forced Sam to cancel several dates on his In the Lonely Hour Tour. According to his official website, Sam is now set to return to the stage on July 3 for a show in the U.K., before heading to the U.S. later that month.
