Murder-Suicide Confirmed In Zapp Deaths
Police have confirmed that the deaths Sunday (April 25) of brothers Roger
Troutman and Larry Troutman, founding members of the funk band
Zapp, were the result of a murder-suicide. Larry Troutman shot Roger
Troutman to death Sunday morning, then took his own life with the same gun, Det.
Carol Thomas, a spokesperson for the Dayton, Ohio, police department, said.
Thomas said the Dayton coroner's office determined the same gun was used in both
shootings. Police have not yet found a motive for the shootings, according to
Thomas. Zapp's first hit was 1980's "More Bounce to the Ounce," and their sound
was embraced by hip-hop artists; Roger Troutman appeared on the Tupac
Shakur/Dr. Dre single "California Love."
