Veteran singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell will open six shows for folk-rock legend Bob Dylan in October and November, including a stop at historic Madison Square Garden in New York, according to Mitchell's management firm.

"It's a good package and she enjoys touring with [Dylan]," said a source at Feldman & Associates who preferred not to be named.

Mitchell, who will release her latest album, Taming The Tiger, on Tuesday, joined Van Morrison as one of the opening acts for the West Coast leg of Dylan's tour earlier this year. In addition, she recently played the "A Day in the Garden" commemorative festival on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, N.Y., the site of the historic 1969 Woodstock concert.

Wally Breese, webmaster of the jonimitchell.com website that last year helped Mitchell reunite with a daughter she gave up for adoption, said of the tour pairing: "I think Joni is doing these shows with Dylan as opposed to a tour on her own because he already has the whole thing set up and all she really has to do is show up. It's much easier than planning and executing a tour of one's own. I know that Joni likes Dylan and considers him to be one of her songwriting peers."

Breese said that Dylan -- who will release a two-CD set, Live 1966: The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert, later this year -- was kind to Mitchell at their joint Vancouver, British Columbia, show in May.

"The crowd was not as attentive as Joni would've liked and she was a bit unsure about continuing the tour as she came offstage," Breese said. "Bob was right there, though, and was so enthusiastic about her performance, telling her, 'Oh, man! Those chords! I'm going to sound like a hillbilly now when I go out onstage,' that she felt much better. Very kind, indeed!"

The tour dates on which Mitchell will open for Dylan may also include a seventh show, which either will be scheduled Oct. 30 in Ottawa or Oct. 31 in Amherst, Mass.
