John Mayer Serves Up ‘Love On The Weekend’ In His First New Song In Three Years

So warm. So mellow. So very John Mayer.

Sit back and relax, folks ... John Mayer has returned with a new guitar-pop gem to gently soothe your way into the weekend.

After a three-year solo hiatus — during which he mostly wore a lot of bandanas while touring with Dead & Company — the singer-songwriter is back with “Love on the Weekend.” The mellow soft-rock tune is all warmth and wanderlust as Mayer croons, “It's a Friday, we finally made it / I can't believe I get to see your face / You’ve been working and I've been waiting / To pick you up and take you from this place.” Such a smooth operator, that one.

“Love on the Weekend” marks Mayer’s first original single since 2013’s “Who You Love” from Paradise Valley. He premiered the new tune with a Facebook live session this afternoon (November 17), during which he answered questions from fans about his upcoming seventh studio album.

“There are more songs than can fit on your standard sized album,” he said. “But I do think next year is the year of more music coming than I’ve ever put out in one year.”

Sounds like there’s plenty for fans to be excited about — just ask Mayer’s mini-me, Shawn Mendes.
