Calvin Harris Thanks Rihanna From The ‘Bottom Of His Heart’ For His First VMA

‘This Is What You Came For’ won Best Male Video

Calvin Harris was given a run for his first-ever Moonman, as the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards nominees for Best Male Video delivered some of the most memorable visuals across any category — and they had a couple common denominators between them.

Both Harris and Kanye West featured Rihanna in their nominated vids, “This Is What You Came For” and “Famous.” Harris’s landscape-shifting dance party met The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” on the euphoric, don’t-even-think-about-leaving-the-dance-floor front. Other nominees included Bryson Tiller’s “Don’t” and Drake’s” “Hotline Bling,” the latter of which took home the Best Hip-Hop Moonman just minutes earlier.

Harris sadly couldn't attend the VMAs due to his upcoming show across the pond. But in his acceptance video, he thanked Video Vanguard RiRi from the “bottom of his heart,” calling her a “superstar” to work with. He also thanked “legendary” director Emil Nava and all the fans who supported the video from the start.

One thing's for sure — each of the nominees succeeded in crafting a music video purely their own, and while they may share leading ladies, vivid scenes, and moods that run the emotional gamut, they made for a mighty crop of serious contenders for 2016’s Best Male Video.
