This Happened: Little Kid Thought He Was Meeting Iron Man, Cried When RDJ Showed Up

Contract negotiations are ongoing to bring Robert Downey Jr. back for "Marvel's The Avengers 2" and a possible fourth "Iron Man" film, hot on the heels of both franchise's previous installments cracking the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box-office. But nevertheless, Robert Downey Jr. is so identifiable as Tony Stark/Iron Man, right? Don't take our word for it. That's what Joss Whedon said recently. "Iron Man" and "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau agrees. Even Marvel honcho, Kevin Feige, must love him in the role, whether he has to replace him or not.

But whether grownups think RDJ "is" Iron Man matters naught to little tikes. Case in point: a cute faux-hawked 1-year-old thought he was going to meet Iron Man and burst into tears when all he got was plain ole Robert Downey Jr.

Downey has been charming the locals in the small Western Massachusetts town of Shelburne Falls, where he's shooting the courtroom thriller "The Judge" with Robert Duvall and Vincent D'Onofrio. Awesome mom Heather Denno thought her 18-month-old son Jackson would get a kick out of meeting Iron Man. But when all he got was some actor named Robert instead, he cried foul... literally. Ever the champion baby-kisser and handshaker, Downey was able to save the situation with that irrepressible Tony Stark charm and baffled dude look.

"He was fine as soon as he talked to him," Heather told People Magazine. Her little boy was "confused because I kept telling him it was Iron Man and he knew it wasn't. Well, not Iron Man in the suit."
