Box Office Report: 'The Purge' Smacks Down 'The Internship'

"The Internship" may have had the big names and the big expectations, but it was "The Purge" that received the big payday at the box office this weekend, as the dystopian horror flick shocked expectations by bringing in a whopping $36.4 million according to Film.com.

That was more than enough to overshadow not just Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's reunion in "The Internship," which debuted in fourth place with $18.1 million, but also returning hits "Fast & Furious 6" ($19.8 million) and "Now You See Me" ($19.5 million).

Next week, of course, will likely be a different story thanks to the debut of "Man of Steel." But for now, "The Purge" reigns.
