Watch The Revealing First Episode Of J. Cole's 'Road To Homecoming' HBO Documentary

Head out on the road with Cole in the first episode of "J. Cole: Road to Homecoming."

Within his music, J. Cole is one of the more personally revealing artists in rap. But outside of your headphones, he's one of the least visible artists. His Twitter posts are infrequent, his Instagram is nearly non-existent and his interviews are selective.

That's what makes the first episode of "J. Cole: Road to Homecoming" so significant, especially for dedicated J. Cole fans. But even non-die-hards can appreciate what it has to offer: The 33-minute ep, which is called "F--k Money, Spread Love" and is the first in a series of four leading up to his HBO concert documentary on Jan. 9, gives an intimate look at his life and creative process.

The Scott Lazer-directed footage starts in the weeks leading up to the December 2014 release of 2014 Forest Hills Drive, with Cole listening to the album for mastering and rushing to turn it in before the deadline. We also get exposed to Jermaine's personality and sense of humor while he jokes around with friends, freestyles for a random couple on the streets of London and tries his best in a game of pick up basketball (the clip only includes low-lights, but there had to be some highlights, too). He shoots his "Apparently" music video, has meetings with radio program directors from across the country and we even see his reaction the first time he finds out that the album sold an impressive 341,000 copies in its first week. There's also plenty of fan interaction, spotlighting his intimate relationship with his base.

Look out for the next episode next Wednesday.
