Marvel Creates New TV Development Department, Jeph Loeb Named Executive V.P.

Earlier today, Marvel announced that Jeph Loeb will be the Executive Vice President in charge of Television, which is a newly created position at Marvel. Loeb's duties will include overseeing the development of live-action and animated Marvel TV series. Perhaps more intriguingly, the announcement also states that Loeb will also oversee potential live-action direct-to-DVD series, in addition to Marvel's previous line of animated features.

Loeb is primarily known as comic book writer with several titles to his credit, including "Batman: The Long Halloween," "Spider-Man: Blue" and the adjective-less "Hulk" title. However, Loeb has worked extensively on television series, including "Lost," "Heroes" and "Smallville." Additionally, Loeb wrote the films "Commando" and "Teen Wolf" back in the '80s.

“[Loeb's] work in the comic book field is in a class of its own, showing his passion and talent for bringing Marvel’s finest characters to life in an innovative manner," said Marvel Chairman Alan Fine. "Jeph’s work on multiple award-winning television series and popular films has shown fans worldwide his ability to deliver thrilling entertainment in a number of media. With Jeph as our EVP, fans will experience the highest quality and most exciting television projects featuring their favorite Marvel characters.”

“I couldn’t be happier to accept this new position at Marvel Entertainment, working with both Dan and Alan to deliver exciting, cutting edge television projects,” added Loeb. “Marvel continues to break new ground in storytelling in both their comic book and film ventures, so, along with everyone here, I’m excited to bring the same brand of excitement into homes across the globe.”
