J. Cole Remixed A 1990s Classic By Giving It A Brand New Beat

Can he kick it? Yes, he can.

We mostly think of J. Cole as a rapper. And that's with good reason -- he's one of the game's best with the pen. But he's also been honing his skills behind the boards since before the world knew his name.

Cole often produces for himself, and has handled the bulk of the production on his own albums and mixtapes, but rarely branches out into the world of other artists. When he does craft beats for others, it's usually friends who are exceptionally talented -- people like Kendrick Lamar, Wale and Talib Kweli.

Now, we can add a couple legends to that list: A Tribe Called Quest.

On Tuesday (Nov. 10), the group released Cole's flip on their classic "Can I Kick It?"

With the 25th anniversary of their debut album, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, passing earlier this year, they're taking the chance to drop a reissue on Friday. On that disc, in addition to this Cole reworking, there's a Pharrell remix of "Bonita Applebum," and a "Footprints" remix with a verse from CeeLo Green.
