The fallout from Ariana Grande's donut gate might have just gotten way more serious. Just hours after the singer announced that she was dropping out of a headlining gig at Saturday's MLB All-Star Game concert in Cincinnati due to a dental emergency, police in Elsinore, California, are investigating the leaked video that appears to show the singer licking donuts in a pastry shop.

A spokesperson for the Riverside County public health office confirmed that the city's Environmental Health Department is investigating the contents of the video, which show Grande and her reported new boyfriend/back-up dancer, Ricky Alvarez, "maliciously" licking the donuts. The spokesperson said investigators did an inspection of the shop on Wednesday and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department issued a press release confirming their investigation.

"On July 7th, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. Lake Elsinore Police personnel met with the owner of Wolfee Donuts located in the Lake Elsinore area concerning a report of deliberate food tampering," read the Sheriff's statement. "Lake Elsinore Police detectives learned Ariana Grande had been a patron of the donut shop on July 4th at approximately 11:30 p.m. While she was in the store, a video depicted her and another male appearing to maliciously lick donuts that were on a display shelf."

The release said the Lake Elsinore Police Department is working with the Riverside County Department of Environmental Health on the investigation and that it was not immediately clear if the "affected donuts were disposed of or sold to another patron."

Lynne Wilder, program chief for the Riverside County Environmental Health Department told MTV News that her organization's inspection of the donut shop found that there was problem with the donuts being displayed on top of the case while customers were inside the facility, resulting in a downgrade of the shop's rating. "Some customers were observed on the video licking the donuts," read a statement from the department.

A spokesperson for Grande could not be reached for comment at press time about the investigation.

According to this lawyer, California Penal Code section 242 specifies that spitting on another person or their food or similar acts could be considered battery, a misdemeanor punishable by an up-to-$2,000 fine or up to six months in county jail.

A cashier at Wolfee Donuts told the Associated Press that Grande did not purchase any of the treats she allegedly gave a tongue bath to. "She was really rude," Mayra Solis said. Grande dropped out of the All-Star concert just days before she was set to headline the event at Great American Ballpark and was quickly replaced by Demi Lovato.

TMZ posted the video on Tuesday in which Grande and Alvarez dared each other to lick donuts, which ended with Grande looking at a tray of fresh pastries and saying, "I hate America." The singer released a statement on Wednesday in which she clarified her comment. "I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I've always made it clear that I love my country. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words," the statement read.

Speculation swirled that the apparently un-patriotic sentiments might have played a role in Grande dropping off the All-Star bill, but she said it was due to a health matter. "As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show," she said. "That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words."
