Memorial Day weekend is always a big one at the box office, and it seems this three-day holiday will usher a few surprises. Namely, the fact that "Pitch Perfect 2" – set to pass $125 million by the end of its second weekend in theaters – may possibly out-earn "Tomorrowland" in its first weekend, according to Variety.

Director Brad Bird's sci-fi film is forecasted to reel in about $40 million over the holiday weekend, while director Elizabeth Banks' a cappella hit may have the edge with a $41 million forecast.

Only time will tell who emerges victorious, but we'll admit we're pulling for the Barden Bellas – we hope the movie's overwhelming success will continue to send an important message to Hollywood: we want to watch films directed by women, and they deserve equal treatment in every way.
