Hear A$AP Rocky Like You've Never Heard Him Before On 'Everyday'
A$AP Rocky isn't really into conventionality; ever since the Harlem, New York rap star marched onto the scene with his syrupy 2011 mixtape Live.Love.A$AP he has challenged rap norms.
So, when Rocky's newest single starts out with an acapella wail from British rock icon Rod Stewart you shouldn't be surprised.
On Thursday night, Lord Flacko hit Twitter and dropped a link to his new single "Everyday," which boasts contributions from Stewart, "Uptown Funk" mastermind Mark Ronson and Miguel. Now it is unclear whether Rocky recorded with Stewart or just sampled from Python Lee Jackson's 1972 track "In a Broken Dream," which featured vocals from Stewart. We're guessing it's the latter.
For Rocky's latest, which will be featured on his upcoming At.Long.Last.ASAP album (or A.L.L.A. for short), the maturing MC ponders his place in the world as Miguel duets with Stewart's vocals.
"Everyday I spend my time, drinking wine, feeling fine, waiting here to find the signs," they both sing.
With his raps, Rocky deals with his rising celebrity, the nagging paparazzi and his own moral compass. "And only God can judge me and he don't like no ugly," he rhymes.
It's been a rough year for Rocky. In January, his dear friend A$AP Yams died with drugs, including opiates and benzodiazepine, in his system. Rocky believes that Yams' sleep apnea was a factor in his death.
“He choked on his vomit. He suffocated on his vomit in his sleep. If it was drugs in his body or not, he still suffocated off his vomit,” Rocky told MTV News in March.
Considering all of his real life drama, plus his musical growth, A.L.L.A. is shaping up to be different from Rock's 2013 major label debut Long.Live.A$AP, which was led by the raunchy free-love ode "F--kin' Problems."
“People know me for being the guy talking about, ‘I got bad bitches I got a f–king problem.’ And in all reality, that’s fun. I was only 23 at the time—that was cute, fine. But right now… when you think about me, as far as my art goes, I want you to remember something a little more honorable. That’s all,” he told us.
