Frank Ocean Flexes His Falsetto Covering Aaliyah's 'At Your Best (You Are Love)'—Listen

January 16 would've been Aaliyah's 36th birthday.

As is his custom, Frank Ocean quietly dropped new music via his Tumblr tonight. The song is a cover of "At Your Best (You Are Love)," a song that was originally by The Isley Brothers that Aaliyah also covered, and Frank does the track justice. January 16 is Aaliyah's birthday, so the song makes sense as a tribute for what would've been her 36th birthday.

After the incredible success of his debut album Channel Orange, fans practically the entire world has been clamoring for new material from Ocean, and this cover is the closest we've gotten.

It's an emotional, spare track with quiet keys, and his falsetto is front and center. Right around Thanksgiving we got a teaser of a song called "Memrise," but this full cover gives us hope that he's been in the studio.

"When you're at your best / You are love / You're a positive motivating force in my life," he sings, before bursting into wordless, celestial falsetto.

Correction: An earlier version of this post misidentified the cover as a new song from Frank Ocean.
