White Stripes U.S. Tour Canceled Due to Meg White's 'Acute Anxiety'

Band offers no further explanation; U.K. tour still on schedule for next month.

In a note posted on the band's Web site on Tuesday, the White Stripes announced that their U.S. tour would be canceled due to health issues. Specifically, they explained, "Meg White is suffering from acute anxiety and is unable to travel at this time."

While a spokesperson for the band would not elaborate on whether the condition is newly diagnosed or give any further detail on the drummer's ailment, the news means that not only will they miss Saturday's set at the Austin City Limits Festival in Texas, but 17 other dates across the U.S., including scheduled two-night stands in Seattle (September 26-27) and Chicago (October 6-7).

"The White Stripes sincerely apologize to their fans. We hate to let people down and are very sorry," read the note on their Web site. For now, according to the spokesperson, a U.K. tour scheduled to kick off October 24 in Glasgow, Scotland, is still expected to go on as planned.
