Producer/musician/sonic meddler Brian Eno, whose acclaimed collaborations with the likes of U2 and Talking Heads have sometimes overshadowed an innovative solo career, will release his first album in four years this month.

Drawn From Life, which features a collaboration with fellow avant-pop star Laurie Anderson, hits stores May 29, according to Astralwerks Records.

Over the course of his almost three-decade-long solo career, Eno has exerted a profound influence on pop music — both in his own, envelope-pushing excursions into ambient music and electronics, and behind the mixing desks for other artists. Most recently, he has completed production work on British band James' next album, while Irish rockers U2 continue to get acclaim for last year's All That You Can't Leave Behind, the fifth album Eno has co-produced for them.

Eno's last solo album was 1997's The Drop. His mid-'70s albums Here Come the Warm Jets, Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy) and Another Green World are considered experimental rock landmarks.

He has also lent his off-kilter musical sensibility to such artists as David Bowie, John Cale and Roxy Music.
