Fear Factory, Kittie, Frog Brigade Set For SnoCore Tours

SnoCore organizers have decided to split the annual winter music and snowboarding festival into a pair of separate treks next year, with the SnoCore Rock Tour and the SnoCore Icicle Ball both set to launch in January.

Fear Factory will headline the inaugural SnoCore Rock Tour, during which the Los Angeles metal band is expected to road test material from its forthcoming album, DigiMortal, due April 24.

Kittie, Union Underground, Slaves on Dope and Boy Hits Car have been confirmed to join Fear Factory on the SnoCore Rock outing, slated to begin on January 19 in Las Vegas and continuing through a February 17 date in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

The SnoCore Icicle Ball will feature a less raucous and more jam-friendly lineup. New Orleans jazzmen Galactic and Les Claypool's Frog Brigade, the latest project from the Primus bassist, are set to co-headline the spinoff.

Baltimore's Lake Trout will open the SnoCore Icicle Ball from the January 17 opening night in Las Vegas through a February 4 show in Detroit. The experimental trio Drums and Tuba take over for the remainder of the tour, starting on February 6 in Cleveland.

The decision to split the festival was aimed at attracting even larger, more diverse crowds to the concerts during an otherwise slow time for most tours, according to ArtistDirect, which is sponsoring both 2001 SnoCore tours.

"There aren't a lot of bands touring in the winter, and we're looking forward to pitting two great tours on the road during that time — especially for all those kids who live in the middle of the country who are up to their necks in snow," ArtistDirect co-founder Don Muller said in a statement.

Organizers describe SnoCore, in its sixth year, as an annual celebration of winter lifestyle and sports. In addition to live music, past SnoCore tours have included snowboarding competitions and winter gear demonstrations.

System of a Down, Incubus, Puya and Mr. Bungle played the 2000 SnoCore Tour, while such artists as Blink-182, Everclear, Redman and Soul Coughing have come out for past editions.

Tickets for both the SnoCore Icicle Ball and the SnoCore Rock Tour will go on sale at 1 p.m. ET on Friday. Advance ticket presales will be available a day earlier, at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday, via www.artistdirect.com.
