Steve-O Is Headed To Jail For His SeaWorld Protest Stunt — But He’s Cool With It

The 'Jackass' star couldn't be happier to show people he hasn't 'lost his edge.'

Steve-O is about to serve time behind bars, but he hasn’t lost his sense of humor or — as he points out — his edgy streak. In fact, he’s feeling pretty chill about the whole thing.

The former “Jackass” stuntman revealed on Instagram on Wednesday (Oct. 7) that he’s been sentenced to 30 days in L.A. County Jail for a dangerous stunt he pulled to protest SeaWorld and its controversial treatment of captive orcas.

Back in August, Steve-O climbed a crane in Hollywood and shot off fireworks while toting an inflatable whale-shaped balloon that read “SeaWorld Sucks.” He even filmed the whole thing and streamed it on Facebook for people to watch in real time.

Steve-O was arrested on charges of trespassing, creating a false emergency, using unregistered fireworks, storing fireworks without a permit and possession of fireworks with a permit. He eventually pleaded no contest to the charges.

But even with his impending jail time coming up (he’s reportedly surrendering himself to authorities on Dec. 9), Steve-O has zero regrets. On Instagram, he shared a cartoon of himself behind bars with a killer whale, writing a lengthy and candid caption about the sentence.

“I just got sentenced to 30 days in LA County jail, and this is what I have to say about it,” he wrote. “Considering I've become a clean and sober, dog-rescuing vegan, I must say I'm ready to go to jail — not just because it will bring so much attention to the plight of orcas in captivity, but because it's nice to let people know I haven't lost my edge. What can I say, I'm a jackass.”

He went on to note that his punishment is actually fitting, given the intent behind his protest: to raise awareness about captivity.

“My whole crane-climbing, fireworks debacle really turned out to be pretty meaningful in the end, too,” he continued. “I mean, if your goal is to make a statement about captivity, you may as well get yourself locked up!”

He finished by revealing that he’s launching a campaign to raise money for “at-risk, inner-city youth” in Los Angeles.

“To help give back to the City of Los Angeles, I launched a campaign today to raise money for at-risk, inner city youth, by raffling off chances to win an all-expenses-paid trip to be my red carpet, VIP guest at the taping of my Showtime comedy special next month, which is called ‘Steve-O: Guilty As Charged,’” he wrote. “Los Angeles, I love you, thank you for everything!”

This isn’t the first time the daredevil has gotten in trouble with the law over an anti-SeaWorld stunt. Last year, he was fined $239 after he altered a freeway sign in San Diego to read “SeaWorld Sucks.”
