Church Revival Spawns New Album, Tour

Australian trip-rockers the Church have announced plans for its first tour of the U.S. in eight years, which will support the release of a new album, "Hologram of Baal," due out September 22.

The group, which formed in Sydney in 1980, scored a Top 25 almost ten years ago with the jangle-pop influenced "Under the Milky Way" from its 1988 breakthrough album, "Starfish.

The new tour and album features a revival of the core members of the Church congregation, as founding member and guitarist Peter Koppes has rejoined guitarist Marty Willson-Piper and bassist-vocalist Steven Kilbey after he exited the group following the release of 1992's "Priest=Aura.

Rounding out the refurbished Church is drummer Tim Powles, who played on 1996's import-only " Magician Among the Spirits," which the group's new label, Thirsty Ear, hopes to release in the near future in an expanded version.
