ENTOURAGE: Episode 79, 'Stunted' Recap

Written By: Doug Ellin

Story: Vincent Chase (Adrian Genier) is doing quite well for himself, finding a role in director Nick Cassavetes' latest action film — but things take a sudden turn when Cassavetes asks Vinny to enact a difficult stunt sequence. Drama's (Kevin Dillon) acting career struggles while Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) deals with trouble at his new luxury car business. Eric (Kevin Connolly) is content in his engagement to Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui) while Ari (Jeremy Piven) finds himself dealing with Vince's latest crisis.

Stunt Test: Let there be no mistake about it — "Entourage" is back in action, and we're back to the good old days. Vince remains on top thanks to his successful turnaround in director Martin Scorsese's "Great Gatsby" remake, leading him to an action movie lead alongside director Nick Cassavetes. But this show has been lacking some drama in Vince's career since season five, something that's thankfully addressed with a not-too-morbid turn of events in the form of Vince's latest stunt work. It's a dramatic but hilarious story-line that's all too fitting on a show like "Entourage."

Vince's stunt woes are all the better for dragging Ari off of his corporate butt and back into the swamp of low-level agency — even if Ari finds a way to offload his duties onto Eric and others. Still, it's great to see Ari in his rightful place as Agent King of Hollywood, even if there's no way this can last forever. Despite the inevitably temporary nature of Ari's new career, it's always fun to watch Jeremy Piven doing what he does best.

But for me, the greatest aspect of "Entourage" remains Kevin Dillon as Johnny "Drama" Chase. Once again, Drama's career is on the outs, and he's struggling to find himself a starring role in a new television pilot. Nobody likes watching Drama squirm — okay, that's blatantly not true — but Dillon remains the undisputed master of self-loathing comedy on "Entourage." If there are any shortcomings involved in the "Entourage" season premiere, they have nothing to do with Drama.

If I have any difficulties with the new season of "Entourage," it's my discontent with Turtle and E's plot lines. In regards to Turtle, I guess some time has passed since he and Jamie-Lynn Sigler parted ways, but I always have some trouble getting behind the character's half-cocked storylines. It's nice to see Dania Ramirez in a role outside of "Heroes," and I think she actually has some chemistry with Jerry Ferrara, but I have to admit to some skepticism when it comes to Turtle's latest story.

As for Eric, I'm worried that he's going to get too bogged down in his engagement to Sloan. Will he have enough freedom to get truly involved in the goings-on of his pals now that he's an almost-married man? I suppose Ari pulls it off every week with his wife (Perry Reeves), but Reeves is a full-fledged series regular. Emmanuelle Chriqui is not. We'll see how this plays out, but I'm a bit worried about E's role going forward.

All said, so far so good with the new season of "Entourage." Let's see where Vinny and his pals go in the upcoming episodes, shall we?
