'The King's Speech' Takes Crown For Best Film At PGA Awards

It looks like "The Social Network" has some real Oscar competition now.

The Producers Guild apparently wasn't about to award a movie about a bunch of young whippersnappers and their fancy computers, as producers Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Gareth Unwin took home the Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures for "The King's Speech."

With "The King's Speech" being crowned at the PGA Awards ceremony on Saturday, it is now officially the film that could give "The Social Network" a run for its money in winning Best Picture at the Oscars this year.

The Producers Guild has an impressive track record of predicting future Oscar winners, though "The Social Network" scored big at both the Critics' Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, so we think it's about 50/50 at this point.

Other winners at the PGA Awards include producer Darla K. Anderson for best animated feature ("Toy Story 3") and producer Lesley Chilcott for best documentary feature ("Waiting For Superman").

Some honorary awards were given as well, with James Cameron taking home the Milestone Award (for being a maniac/genius), Scott Rudin receiving the David O. Selznick Award in Motion Pictures (Rudin produced both "The Social Network" and "True Grit" this past year) and Sean Penn receiving the Stanley Kramer Award for his charity work.

And we're assuming Judd Apatow did a fine job with hosting, probably making even the most surly of the Hollywood producers present at the ceremony chuckle every now and then.
