Waterboys Drummer Kevin Wilkinson Found Dead

Waterboys drummer Kevin Wilkinson was found dead at his home in Wiltshire, England over the weekend.

According to the "Scottish Daily Record," Wilkinson apparently hanged himself after becoming depressed about mounting personal and family problems. His body was discovered by his wife, Marilyn, on July 18, but it's believed that he actually committed suicide at some point the day before.

In addition to the Waterboys, Wilkinson had also earned recent credits with Squeeze, the Proclaimers, Howard Jones, and Bonnie Raitt. After a period away from the Waterboys in the early to mid-'90s, Wilkinson had recently rejoined the group, and was supposed to convene with the band in a studio on Tuesday to start work on a new album.

Squeeze has issued a statement about Wilkinson's death, in which the bandmembers remember the drummer with "love, laughter, and affection by us all." A spokesman for Howard Jones referred to Wilkinson as "irreplaceable" and that "he was very highly regarded

both as a musician and as a person."

Wilkinson is survived by his wife and three children.
