Charlie Puth Is Really Sorry For Yelling ‘Fuck You, Justin Bieber’ In Concert

At least... he was really sorry. Now we're not so sure.

The blessing and the curse of being a celebrity in 2016 is that everything you do in the public eye is documented, shared, and stored forever. FOREVER.

And so, when the words “Fuck you, Justin Bieber!” rolled off Charlie Puth’s tongue in the middle of his concert in Dallas on Friday night, it spread around the Twittersphere at exceptionally warped speed. The 24-year-old was serenading the crowd with “We Don’t Talk Anymore” -- the breakup jam that features Bieber's ex Selena Gomez on its recorded version -- and he apparently took the opportunity to declare his loyalty to Team Sel. At least, that’s what I can only assume happened, since a Puth/Bieber feud seems too random to be real.

Upon realizing that his mid-song callout would likely ignite the fury of Beliebers worldwide, Puth issued an apology on Twitter the following day, saying it was all just a joke.

“Hey everyone. I feel like I need to clear something up,” he wrote. “What I said at the concert last night about Justin was meant to be a joke. However.. The way it was said mid song did not sound like one.”

He continued, “I am a massive @JustinBieber fan and I have nothing but great things to say about him and his music always.”

Here’s the weird part of this already weird story, though: For whatever reason, Puth then deleted those tweets. (But, as we've learned before, screenshots never die). Which leaves us… where, exactly? Does the “fuck you” still stand? Was it indeed all just a hearty joke? Is it too late for him to say sorry? He know-oh-ohs that he let us down, is it too late to say sorry now?

For Bieber’s part, he hasn’t commented on the so-called dis, probably because he’s too busy packing arenas with his own tour, preaching his newfound “purpose” in life, and promising for the zillionth time to be a changed man and rise above the drama and “live and let God” and so on and so forth. But if he ever was on cool terms with Puth, we’re guessing they don’t talk anymore.
