News Flash: Porno For Pyros Disband

Porno for Pyros leader Perry Farrell has broken up his band and is pursuing other projects, according to a source close to the band members.

The group -- Farrell, drummer Stephen Perkins, guitarist Peter DiStefano and several bassists including Martyn LeNoble -- recorded just two albums, neither of which were commercially successful. Their last release, 1996's Good God's Urge, found Farrell taking the group in a trippy, psychedelic direction. In a review that ran in Addicted To Noise, critic Aidin Vaziri wrote, "With Good God's Urge Farrell works his magic again. He and his band mates... have made a singularly enchanting disc, filled with majestic instrumentation, evocative lyrics and an ethereal vibe."

Prior to forming Porno For Pyros, Farrell led Jane's Addiction and founded Lollapalooza. Last year, Farrell reformed Jane's Addiction for a brief tour; Kettle Whistle, an album of previously unreleased material that included two new recordings, was released.

The source said that Farrell is still working with Perkins on "a number of other activities and projects." Porno's label, Warner Bros., could not be reached for comment at press time. -- Gil Kaufman [Sat., Feb. 21, 1998, 9 a.m. PST]
