Britney Spears To Host American Music Awards

Pop princess Britney Spears, who has seen more than her share of awards ceremonies in her 18 years, will put that experience to work next January as the host of the 28th annual American Music Awards.

It is not yet known whether Spears will also perform at the ceremony, which is scheduled for January 8 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, according to Melissa Cummings, a spokesperson for Dick Clark Productions, which puts on the show.

The nominees for the 2001 American Music Awards will be announced on November 13.

Spears won Favorite New Artist at the 2000 American Music Awards, which were hosted by comedian Norm McDonald. Other winners included Santana, Lauryn Hill, DMX, Shania Twain and Garth Brooks.

Spears, who released the multiplatinum Oops! ... I Did It Again in May, is in the midst of a European tour.
