Avril Lavigne Is Recording A Christmas Album And Here's What It Should Sound Like

We're imagining 'Santa Boi' and more of Avril's biggest singles as festive holiday jams.

It’s been two whole years since Avril Lavigne released her latest, self-titled album. But after a long hiatus during which she battled a previously undisclosed medical condition (that she has since revealed was Lyme disease), everyone’s favorite party-starting Canadian popstar is finally blessing our ears with new music.

In February, Avril released the stunning video for “Give You What You Like” and announced her new single “Fly,” which is slated to drop on April 16 in conjunction with the 2015 Special Olympics World Games.

With that double dose of exciting news, Avril fans were left wondering when the 30-year-old would hit the studio to record a full album of new material. And now, it finally appears we have an answer: she’s already started! But in true Avril fashion, there’s a fun twist.

In a new interview with Billboard, Av revealed, “I’ve always wanted to make a Christmas album, but I’ve never had the time. But now it’s like, ‘You know what, just do it!’ Because that’s something I really want to do, so that’s going to be next for me.”

So there we have it: the pop-punk princess is joining the ranks of everyone from Michael Bublé to Justin Bieber with her very own collection of carols. If anyone can grace us with a miraculous, modern-day version of No Doubt’s “Oi to the World,” we’re sure it’s her (just a thought, Av).

While Avril hasn’t revealed any more deets about the record, we’d like to officially offer up some suggestions for how she could rework some of her most popular singles into festive Christmasy anthems.

“Sk8er Boi” — “Santa Boi”

“He was a Santa boi/

She said gimme a new toy/

He didn’t stuff her stocking full/

She was on the nice list/

But now she’s the naughtiest/

She needed a Christmas miracle”

“Hello Kitty” — “Hello Frosty”

“Come come Frosty Frosty/

You’re so jolly jolly/

Don’t melt Frosty Frosty/

Stay with me”

“What The Hell” — “Sleigh The Bell”

“All winter long I’ve been quiet but now/

I’m saying ‘Sleigh the bell!’/

All I want is to prance around/

And I don’t really care about/

If you’re sleeping, if you’re working/

You can’t stop me, grinchy grinchy”

“Give You What You Like” — “Gift You What You Like”

“When you turn on the tree lights/

I get stars in my eyes/

Is this Zale’s?/

Or maybe it’s Kay’s/

So don’t turn on the lights/

I’ll gift you what you like”

“Keep Holding On” — “Keep Snowing On”

“Keep snowing on/

‘Cause you know we’ll wake up to, we’ll wake up to/

Snow days all week long/

‘Cause you know we hate school, we hate school”

“Here’s To Never Growing Up” — “Here’s To Never Filling Up”

“Singing ‘chestnuts roasting’ at the top of our lungs/

With the gingerbread flowing as we’re feasting on noms/

Got a bottle of eggnog but it’s getting us drunk/

Singing here’s to never filling up”

“Complicated” — “Decorated”

“Why do you have to go and make the house so decorated?/

I see the way you/

Hang the mistletoe like you’re gonna make out with David/

And life’s like this you,/

You bake and you shop and you nap/

And you wrap what you get and you turn it into/

Presents and you promised me I’m gonna find it under the tree/

iPhone, phone, phone”
