Will 'Guardians' Recruit 'Walking Dead' Star Michael Rooker As Rocket Raccoon?

Our regular Galaxy Guide feature gave you the rundown on "Guardians" mainstay Rocket Raccoon this week. Now that we're all on the same page of who he is, let's talk about who we want to play him in the movie.

One geek-friendly actor's name is already apparently in the mix to provide the voice for Rocket: none other than Merle Dixon himself, "Walking Dead" actor Michael Rooker. Having previously starred in James Gunn's "Slither" and "Super," Rooker has a strong, established relationship with the "Guardians of the Galaxy" director -- leading the folks at MovieWeb to ask Rooker directly if he's "a fan of raccoons."

"I love raccoons," Rooker laughed knowingly, according to the site. "Raccoons are my friends."

Elaborating a bit, Rooker said he's well aware of the Rocket role, and would be very happy to land that part, despite his hectic schedule on AMC's zombie drama.

"I'm really crazy busy with The Walking Dead right now. But you know what? Write this up," he said. "If the fans want me as Rocket Raccoon, Marvel will listen to you guys, I think, sometimes... Perhaps I will be lucky and blessed enough to go in there, and go at it with Mr. Gunn again."
