Jan. 8 [12:00 EST] -- It seems that Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne has a bit too much free time on his hands. The Lips singer is currently killing his downtime with something he has dubbed The Parking Lot Experiment.

Coyne hands out cassettes of various insect noises to 40 friends, who hop in their cars and convene in an underground parking garage. Then, on Coyne's signal, the drivers blare the tapes at top volume, filling the garage with canned natural noise.

The idea came to me while I was sleeping on the roof last summer when the air conditioning broke down," Coyne told reporters about his parking lot escapades.

Coyne is hoping to release an album of the experiment's finest moments, and he is also planning to tour U.S. parking lots in support of it.
