'Gossip' Guy Ed Westwick Joins ‘J. Edgar,’ Charlize Theron Out

While partying and lip-locking may not look like the greatest challenge for actors, the cast of "Gossip Girl" as certainly parlayed their four seasons (and running) into career wins. Blake Lively co-starred in "The Town," Leighton Meester shows up in "Country Song" and now Ed Westwick will make the jump to the big leagues in Clint Eastwood's upcoming J. Edgar Hoover biopic, "J. Edgar."

Details are scarce on what areas of the infamous FBI Director's life the script will focus on, but, according to Deadline, Westwick is set to play an agent recruited to pen Hoover's biography. In the process, he uncovers some peculiar information.

This revelation will likely force him to squint and pout his lips like a male model. OK, maybe he's not playing Agent Chuck Bass, but the movie will be a chance for Westwick to spread his wings and show some muscles he can't flex on "Gossip Girl."

The Deadline report also mentions that Charlize Theron, originally cast to play file clerk Helen Gandy, will not be joining the movie, opting for the big budget fairytale "Snow White and the Huntsman." Someone must have caught a quickie screening of Eastwood's latest, "Hereafter."

We love Theron and haven't seen her sink her teeth into serious material in ages, but the possible replacements  are promising. Eastwood is supposedly looking at Naomi Watts and Amy Adams for the role, two top-notch actresses fully capable of sparring with Leonardo Dicaprio's Hoover. As long as Eastwood loses his recent sentimental kick and errs on the gritty side, "J. Edgar" should be a winner.
