You’re Not Dreaming: Here’s A New Video From Mobb Deep And The Lox

Mobb Deep and The Lox join forces and kick reality on 'All A Dream.”'

What happens when two of rap’s hardest groups team up? Mobb Deep and The Lox show us with "All A Dream,” a track that premiered on MTV earlier today (July 27).

It’s a dream collaboration as Mobb Deep’s Prodigy and Havoc link up with The Lox’s Jadakiss, Styles P, and Sheek Louch for this cut about dreams that samples The Notorious B.I.G.’s classic “Juicy” vocals. The video was directed by Wiley and shows luxurious pool scenes contrasted with cuts to bleak prison life, blurring the lines between memory, reality and dreams.

"I had a dream that Biggie told me that I was nice/ Then I woke up and realized it was real life,” Sheek raps on the track, recalling memories when he and his Lox brothers rhymed alongside Biggie Smalls as part of Diddy's Bad Boy family.

While the song, off this year's The Infamous...Mobb Deep album is about dreams, it’s also about making those dreams come true. In Styles P’s verse, for example, the Yonkers MC remembers that he once fantasized about becoming a rapper when he was 12, which leads him to wonder if it was “all a dream” or if his vision was just that good. Prodigy brings this concept home on the hook, which is all about waking up and continuing to live the dream.

Mobb Deep, who dropped their debut LP Juvenile Hell in ’93, and The Lox, who released their debut album Money, Power & Respect in ’98, use “All A Dream” to show they can continue to kick reality in 2014 with the best of ‘em.
