Back in September, it was announced that the secret comic book movie project that "Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie has been circling was not in fact, "Sgt. Rock," as many had suspected. Instead of directing a film about an American war hero, Ritchie would get behind the camera for "Lobo" — a movie based on the adventures of DC's violent, white-skinned alien bounty hunter.

However, the reports of Ritchie's attachment to the project could be a bit premature, as he told MTV News during the recent "Sherlock Holmes" junket in London.

"Is it a matter of fact that I'm doing it?" Ritchie asked when told of reports framing his participation in "Lobo" as a done deal. "I don't think it's a matter of fact. In fact, I can tell you it's not a matter of fact."

Supremely evasive when asked for clarification, Ritchie seemed intent on keeping the status of "Lobo" — and his involvement with the film — under wraps for the time being.

"Isn't there a fifth amendment or something?" he laughed.

Ritchie's comments would seem to move the film back into the realm of "potential" and deflate a little of the buzz surrounding the project — but that doesn't mean we haven't been busy investigating potential leading men for the film. In October, readers voted "Thor" hopeful James Preston Rogers the actor most capable of bringing the last living Czarnian to the big screen, with Kevin Durand ("Wolverine") and Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("The Losers") also popular favorites.

Now, however, it looks like the person occupying the "Lobo" director's chair might be just as uncertain as the film's leading man.
