Oasis Shoots New Video, Kicks Off Tour

Oasis made a quick stop in Vancouver earlier this week to shoot a new video just prior to kicking off its tour south of the border in Seattle Wednesday night.

The group set up the cameras at a vacated psychiatric hospital in keeping with the theme of "Sunday Morning Call," the song for which the video was shot.

The band arrived in town quietly on Sunday and began shooting under tight security Monday, but a reporter and photographer from the daily "Vancouver Province" managed to track down the location and report on the production.

The video reportedly involves a surreal experience taking place between two puffs on a cigarette. According to the band's label, "It's an allegory of individualism vs. the establishment and pays homage to the themes of [the Jack Nicholson film] 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.'

Province" writer Mike Roberts, quoting a production manager, reported that the main character in the video's narrative jumps out of his apartment window

while trying to escape from men who want to institutionalize him; he subsequently runs into a car and ends up in the hospital.

The shoot involved a cast and crew of more than 80 people and was mostly centered in an abandoned mental health institution in the suburb of New Westminster.

Sunday Morning Call" was directed by British director Nick Egan, who also manned "Go Let it Out," the first single and video from the new album "Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants." Egan also directed the clip for "Who Feels Love," which is scheduled for release as the album's second single in the U.K. and the rest of the world on April 17.

Oasis shot the video for "Who Feels Love" in Death Valley, California, and the production involved "a lot of walking about," as guitarist Noel Gallagher told MTV News (see [article id="1432793"]"Promoters Support Robbie Vs. Liam Match"[/article]). The finished product is reportedly a psychedelic, split-screen affair that includes footage of

exploding computers and TVs among the shots of the band in the desert.

That video will most likely not be seen Stateside anytime soon, however, as "Who Feels Love" is currently not slated to be released in the U.S., according to the band's label.

Viewers on this side of the pond will still be seeing "Where Did It All Go Wrong," featuring Noel Gallagher on vocals, drop next in America, accompanied by a video shot in the U.K.

Sunday Morning Call" is now tentatively expected to be the band's third single release in all markets.

Meanwhile, Oasis opened its tour at the Paramount Theater in Seattle with a 16-song set preceded by a 15-minute film backed by an instrumental version of the song "F***in' In The Bushes." The film was shot in New York City and included Strawberry Fields, Central Park's John Lennon, as a backdrop.

Oasis dedicated the encore, a cover of Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)," to the late Seattle-area native Kurt Cobain, who had died on

the same day six years previously. A phrase from the song had been included in Cobain's suicide note.
