In an interview with Collider, Fincher confirmed "20,000 Leagues" would be the first film he shoots in 3-D and implied that it would be his next film, though the director spent most of his time talking about his other projects.

Of "Rendezvous With Rama," an adaptation of the Arthur C. Clarke novel, Fincher said it is "a great story that has an amazing role for Morgan Freeman who is an amazing actor and would be amazing in this thing. The question was can we get a script that's worthy of Morgan and can we get a script that is worthy of Arthur Clark [the author] and can we do all of that in an envelope that will allow the movie to take the kinds of chances that it wants to take."

Set in the 22nd century, "Rama" follows a group of human explorers who intercept an alien starship that enters Earth's solar system. Fincher said his goal with the film is to make a movie "where kids go out of the theater and instead of buying an action figure they buy a telescope.

"The hope is, let's get people interested in the f***ing movie," Fincher continued. "So there have been people that have been interested in this idea and we have never been able to get a script.”

Fincher also talked a bit about his problems in both "The Social Network" and "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" of trying to keep the technology in the film as accurate as possible. The average moviegoer probably isn't going to notice that cars made in 2007 and 2009 were driving by in a scene in "The Social Network" (when Jesse Eisenberg is crossing the street in Harvard Square) that is supposed to take place in 2003, but it matters to Fincher. He determined that "Dragon Tattoo" is also probably supposed to have taken place in 2003, though it wasn't published until 2005. But since the iPhone and everything that followed it didn't come out until 2007, that means they're all off limits.

"All those apps that would be available to the iPhone are probably something that Salander would have access to 'cause she's a bit of a Mac junkie. So you kind of go, 'Well where do we draw the line?' " Fincher explained. "We just said, look, everything has to be pre-iPhone technology, because otherwise they would be sitting there going, 'Well we just go over here.' They would have a compass; they would be able to tell what the weather was like. So there's all that stuff, you just have to make a decision [that's] fairly arbitrary, basically everything in the movie is pre-iPhone."

Also, for all of you hoping Fincher might switch up the serial killer genre and trade it in for a rom-com, he apparently already thinks he's done a romantic flick.

"I sort of thought 'Fight Club' was a romantic comedy," Fincher said with a laugh, "but albeit very homoerotic."
