The Real Reason Shiloh Fernandez Didn't Land 'Twilight': He "Didn't Mesh" With Kristen Stewart

"Red Riding Hood" star Shiloh Fernandez was almost Edward Cullen and, therefore, almost a name you would've heard screamed from the rooftops of Twi-hards' homes for the past few years.

Alas, Robert Pattinson swooped in and stole Kristen Stewart's heart instead, and the rest is "Twilight" history.

But what exactly happened with Fernandez? Why didn't he land the part? As a matter of fact, that whole Pattinson swooping thing is exactly what happened.

The 26-year-old confesses to NextMovie that he and Stewart simply "didn't mesh."

Fernandez has reportedly said that he and K.Stew had no chemistry, but he tells us he wasn't trying to take a swipe at the starlet or insinuate that she did anything wrong.

"It didn't work because I wasn't right for the part," Fernandez tells NextMovie. "I read a quote recently that I supposedly said about Kristen… it was horrible. What I was really saying was it was me — I was the one who was nervous and awkward. She already had the role of Bella.

"I really wanted that part because I like the book and I think it's a fantastic role, but we really didn't mesh up. I'm sure Kristen would agree — I've never seen her besides that one day."

See? Sometimes a guy means it when he says, "It's not you, it's me."

Things worked out a bit better between Shiloh and "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke because she called him back to play Peter, the love interest of Amanda Seyfried in "Red Riding Hood." This time, Fernandez and his leading lady convey an animal attraction on-screen.

"I had written a letter to Catherine thanking her and telling her how great I thought she was," says Fernandez. "When I read the script for 'Red Riding Hood,' I thought it was the perfect match for the both of us."
