Sarah Michelle Gellar Thinks The 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' Reboot Is 'A Horrible Idea'

Though she's remained very quiet on the subject so far, Sarah Michelle Gellar has finally opened up about her stance on the brand new "Buffy" movie that supposedly won't have anything to do with the beloved universe set forth by Whedon — a universe that still very much exists in the form of a Dark Horse comic book series, mind you.

"I think it's a horrible idea," she said bluntly in an interview with CNN (via Blastr). "To try to do a 'Buffy' without Joss Whedon, I mean that's, like, honestly, to be incredibly non-eloquent: that's the dumbest idea I've ever heard."

Gellar explained her reasoning further, saying: "It was a movie. It's been made. It stars Kristy Swanson. They made it. They don't need to make another one!"

So, count Sarah's voice among the many speaking out against a "Buffy" reboot. She's far from the first Whedon veteran to voice her displeasure at the idea, either.

“It’s hard to imagine anybody but Joss bringing that to the screen," former "Buffy" writer Marti Noxon told MTV News at the Los Angeles premiere of "I Am Number Four" earlier this year. "I wouldn’t want to be the person trying to write it. And I worked on the show, but I would not want to be that [person] because the fans are very loyal. They’re excruciatingly loyal, unless they hate you, in which case they’re excruciating about that too.”
