Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park Win Big At MTV Asia Awards

Hosted by CoCo Lee and Shaggy, event will air across Asia on Friday (January 24).

It's a good thing Avril Lavigne wasn't one of the presenters at the 2003 MTV Asia Awards. Having been challenged with the pronunciation of "David Bowie" at this year's Grammy nomination ceremony, she probably would have been really flustered at having to call out names like Siti Nurhaliza and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

But the Canadian songstress was still the talk of the proceedings, bringing home three awards -- Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Breakthrough Artist and the Style Award -- the most of any performer at the event, which was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and will air across Asia on Friday (January 24). Linkin Park also fared well, winning Favorite Rock Act and Favorite Video for "Pts.of.Athrty (Remix)." In other categories, Robbie Williams won Favorite Male Artist, Blue took Favorite Pop Act and F4 earned the Inspiration Award.

The event, which was hosted by CoCo Lee and Shaggy, also honored a wide range of Asian talent. Region-specific awards went to 10 performers: Yu Quan (Mainland China), Sammi Cheng (Hong Kong), A.R. Rahman (India), Cokelat (Indonesia), j.t.L. (Korea), Nurhaliza (Malaysia), Regine Velasquez (Philippines), Stefanie Sun (Singapore), Jay Chou (Taiwan) and D2B (Thailand).

The 2003 MTV Asia Awards featured performances by Lavigne, Robbie Williams, Missy Elliott, Matchbox Twenty, Shaggy, CoCo Lee, Nurhaliza, Stefanie Sun, Atomic Kitten, Blue, Ella, He Yao Sun, Jay Chou, j.t.L., Kyla, Kris Dayanti and Palmy.
