Medeski Martin & Wood's Tonic Set For Release
Medeski Martin & Wood, the jazz-organ trio who have crossed over to the rock 'n' roll world with great success, are returning to their acoustic roots.
Tonic, due from Blue Note records April 25, was recorded live at the New York club of the same name last year, and features keyboardist John Medeski drummer Billy Martin and bassist Chris Wood swinging hard on acoustic instruments. The group plays originals and covers such as Duke Ellington's "Afrique," John Coltrane's "Your Lady" and Bud Powell's "Buster Rides Again."
The group plays the Angel Orensanz Center for the Arts in New York from April 12–16 to celebrate the release, then goes on a two-month acoustic tour, except for a few dates that are electric.
The group's 1996 album Shack Man includes the track "Think" (RealAudio excerpt).
